Dolly-Parton

Dolly Parton, born Jan. 19, 1946 in Locust Ridge Tenn. to 12 hungry kids who would grow together eventually, learned very early how to get out of difficulties through her vibrant and vivid imagination. Prior to learning how to read or write she wrote herself songs. Her first guitar was given by her mother when she was eighteen. She began singing in an Knoxville Tenn station by the age of eleven. Gold Band Records is a small label that is independent. In high school, she made her name in the local community, yet she yearned for having a bigger stage. When she graduated from high school in 1964 she moved immediately to Nashville. Dumb Blonde (1967) and Something Fishy (1968) were the first two albums to chart for Monument Records. Porter Wagoner began looking for female singers to join his syndicated television program at about the exact time. Parton joined Grand Ole Opry 1969 after having signed with RCA Records. However she left Wagoner's show in 1974 as her solo releases such as Joshua Coat of Many Colors and Jolene had begun charting their collaborative efforts. Parton wrote I Will Always Love You in honor of Wagoner after their breakup. It reached number one. For the first time, in 1974.
