In 2017, Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee released Despacito and it was the top-streamed track at the time within one year. It was a mix of pop music and reggaeton did not only bring attention to reggaeton but it also brought attention to Latin music more generally. The Billboard Top 100 featured two songs that were Spanish predominantly, as well as another four in the year 2016. During the height of Despacito's popularity, however 19 mostly Spanish songs made it to the Top 100 as well, and by 2020 there were 41 songs.
